The Artist as Naturalist – A Year of Sketching Along Long Island’s Southwestern Coast
Mixed Media Artist Karen Michel presents her project The Artist as Naturalist, a year of exploring some of the remaining wild spaces in and around the coastal region of Long Island’s southwestern shore.
The exhibition features sketchbook drawings and paintings of her coastline studies of the salt marshes and dunes.
“My hope is that this project will inspire the people within these communities to take a closer look at the natural beauty around them, become good stewards and maybe even start a sketchbook/art practice of their own.”-Karen Michel
This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and administered by The Huntington Arts Council.
