Legendary children’s musician Laurie Berkner is thrilled to make her Rahway, NJ debut with a special sensory-friendly, “relaxed performance” at 12:30 p.m. and a “Greatest Hits” solo concert at 3:00 p.m.

A true pioneer in children’s music, providing a soundtrack to childhood and memories that last a lifetime, Laurie Berkner celebrates the 25th anniversary of the release of her second album, Buzz Buzz, throughout 2023. At her Rahway shows, Laurie will perform songs from Buzz Buzz like “Bumblebee (Buzz Buzz)” and “Pig On Her Head,” along with such well-loved hits as “Victor Vito,” “We Are The Dinosaurs,” “Rocketship Run,” and “The Goldfish (Let’s Go Swimming)” and more recent fan favorites like “Superhero,” “Waiting for the Elevator,” and “Chipmunk at the Gas Pump.” Laurie will showcase an array of tunes that encourage kids and grownups alike to get up and dance. Kids should plan to bring their dancing shoes and a stuffed animal (for their heads).

For her sensory-friendly, “relaxed performance,” Laurie Berkner will perform in an environment that has been adapted to provide a welcoming atmosphere for individuals with autism, learning differences, or other sensory and communication needs, so that they and their families may enjoy Laurie’s live show together. At a sensory-friendly performance, the concert is performed at the same high quality as always, with the light and sound levels adjusted slightly to create a more sensory-sensitive environment. Sensory-friendly performances are “shush-free” zones where patrons are free to talk and leave their seats throughout the show, as well as bring their own snacks, fidgets, and communication devices with them to their seats. Fidgets and stress-sensory toys will also be on hand for children to borrow for this performance. A private area will be available in the UCPAC cafe, where children and their families can relax and take a break, if needed. Professional autism specialists will be available throughout the performance to provide assistance, as desired.

Most of all, a sensory-friendly performance is a judgment-free environment, where all are welcome to enjoy the show in whatever way make the experience work for them.
