Annual 1776 Peace Conference Celebration

This living history event will commemorate the 248th Anniversary of the only Peace Conference held during the American Revolution on September 11th, 1776.

Saturday, September 7th (raindate: Sunday, September 8th), 11 am to 4pm At Conference House & Park Great Lawn, 7455 Hylan Blvd, Tottenville SI 10307 $5.00 Each; children 5 years and under FREE.  Scouts in uniform admitted for FREE and get a Conference House Patch! Outdoor Event.

Opening Ceremony featuring the Staten Island Bagpipers at 11 am.

The highlight of the event is a reading of an excerpt of the Peace Conference at 2pm. Board members portraying all of the key figures discussing the many issues that were faced back then, in an effort to put an end to the Revolutionary War.

The day includes costumed Colonial dancers who are accompanied by 18th Century music.

There will be an outdoor Museum exhibit and visitors can take a peek at the vegetables growing in the Colonial Kitchen Garden.

Various 18th century craftspeople demonstrate Colonial era trades such as woodworking, coopering, tin smithing, beekeeping, chair caning, spinning, wampum making techniques and weaving and quilting. Visitors see demonstrations and learn about various crafts.

Among other activities children have the opportunity to make kites (in homage to Ben Franklin) and to try their hand at the art of calligraphic writing.

Colonial cooking is demonstrated at the outdoor open hearth fires by the dedicated members of the Conference House Auxiliary. They will share Colonial recipes for cornbread and soup. Modern day snacks will be available for purchase.
