2022 Peacemaker Awards Night: Journalism on the Front Line

Peace Action Fund of New York State (PAFNYS) is pleased to announce that Katrina vanden HeuvelEditorial Director and Publisher of The Nation, will be the recipient of the 2022 William Sloane Coffin, Jr. Peacemaker Award. She will be honored at an awards ceremony to be held on Monday, October 3rd, 2022 in New York City, and will deliver the event’s keynote address.

The event will center around the theme, “Journalism on the Front Line: The Fourth Estate in Peril,” and will highlight the importance of journalistic bravery in covering global conflicts and in upholding democracy in the US. The event will also feature special guest speaker John Nichols, National Affairs Correspondent for The Nation. 

PAFNYS is honored to present this award to Katrina in-person on Monday, October 3rd, 2022 at 6pm ET at Scandinavia House, 58 Park Avenue in New York City. A reception for sponsors will follow the program.

Katrina vanden Heuvel will be the 15th awardee to receive the William Sloane Coffin, Jr. Peacemaker Award. Katrina’s lifetime of work supporting independent and progressive reporting, and in speaking out against war and other global injustice, serve as an inspiration to journalists working in today’s particularly fraught media landscape. Katrina will also provide the keynote address for the ceremony.

The William Sloane Coffin, Jr. Peacemaker Award is presented annually by Peace Action Fund of New York State (PAFNYS) to an individual whose life serves as a model for current and future changemakers. It is named for the late Reverend William Sloane Coffin, Jr., a noted civil rights and anti-war activist who championed the power of civil disobedience and peaceful protest in fighting injustice. The Rev. Coffin served as President of SANE/FREEZE (now Peace Action) from 1987 until his retirement in the early 1990’s.
